Cobalt Inlay Vase

Stoneware vase with a frilly rim. Hand thrown on the wheel and altered by hand. 

Once the clay is bone dry, a wiggle pattern is carved into the surface. Cobalt oxide is painted on and wiped away leaving only the wiggles visible. A red foot is then hand painted onto the vase. Fired once to 1000 degrees celsius, then signed, waxed, and dipped into a glossy transparent glaze. Once dry the piece is ready for its final 1230 degree firing.

The perfect size for a good bunch of sweet peas!
